October Facebook Frenzy Starts Friday!

Time for fall-themed freebies! Another Facebook Frenzy is ready to start tomorrow (Friday, October 18) at 8AM EST.

Once again, there will be different loops based on grade level, and you are welcome to visit all of the participating Facebook fan pages to download exclusive freebies. I'll be part of the 4-5 loop this time around. My freebie is my Jack-o'-Lantern Four Types of Writing activity. Students will have fun practicing expository, narrative, descriptive, and persuasive writing as the compose four different paragraphs about a single Halloween-related topic.

To get started on the 4-5 loop, simply click on the Frenzy or freebie image above, "Like" my fan page, and click on the "FB Frenzy" tab on the top right of the page. After you download the freebie, click on the pumpkin image found within the FB Frenzy tab, and off you go to the next stop of the Frenzy.

September Facebook FREEBIE Frenzy!

Another Facebook Frenzy is up and running through September 23! This month's theme is "fall" and/or "apples." There are three different fan page hops going on this time: K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. 

To get your freebies, you must "like" the fan page. The freebie link will be made available after you "like" the page. Then, you click on the basket of apples at the bottom of the image, and you're on to the next stop. Pretty simple. You can start anywhere in the hop and still make a full circle, visiting all fan pages in the Frenzy. If you get lost, or a link isn't working, use this set of maps to get to your next destination. 

I'm giving away a free set of fall-themed concrete poetry templates for this month's Frenzy.

These 8 lined templates complement introductory lessons on concrete poetry. They can be used in the draft or final publication stage of the writing process. Older students can draft their poetry on the template and transfer their work to a separate sheet of paper for a more authentic concrete poem. Younger students can visualize the shape of their concrete poems with the help of these templates, which are also lined to help keep writing neat. Great for displaying student work as well. What a fun activity for fall!

**Update: While the August Facebook Frenzy is over, I can't resist sharing my Brain-Boosting Back-to-School Activities since so many teachers are headed back to school. These activities encourage students to think creatively about themselves and the back-to-school season and are designed for whole-group, small-group, and individual completion.

Included are the following: If I Was Game, in which students take turns completing "If I Was..." statements that reflect their personalities; If My Life was a Novel Activity, in which students reflect on their life experiences and assign them to a literary genre; and Back-to-School Categories Game in which students come up with creative answers for each back-to-school category in a Scattergories-inspired game. Start here for grades 3-12 and clip art. For K-2, start here.  Look for the Facebook Frenzy tab on each of the pages. Then, simply become a fan of the page, and download your exclusive freebie. When you've gotten your freebie, move on to the next stop by clicking on the "Next Stop" image.
